Henry’s Law Problems 1. Arterial blood contains about 0.25 g of oxygen per liter at 37 °C and standard atmospheric pressure. Express this solubility of O 2 in blood in mol/L atm.
2. The solubility of O 2 in water is 6.5 mg/L at 1 atm pressure and 40 °C. Calculate the Henry’s Law constant for O 2 at 40 °C.
3. Use the information in problem 1. to calculate the solubility (g/L) of O 2 in the blood (a) an alpine climber on Mt. Everest (atmospheric pressure = 0.35 atm) and (b) a scuba diver breathing air at a depth of 100 feet (P = 100ft/33ft + 1= 4.0 atm).
