Provides the basic rules and guidelines for exercising political authority 2. Three fundamental components: a. Functions of government: the powers and responsibilities that rest in the public rather than the private sphere b. Procedures: the manner in which govt. carries out powers and responsibilities entrusted to it c. Structure: the institutions and mechanisms that constitute the framework of government 3. Limitations on governmental powers B. Aristotle’s Classification of Constitutions 1. Based on how many exercise power: one, few, many 2. Good and bad forms GOOD BAD Monarchy one tyranny Aristocracy few oligarchy Constitutional gov. many democracy ^---he says constl gov. as constitutional democracy- maj rule but there are limits… (that’s the negative to it.)
