My first claim is that J.S. Mill has the most credible theory of morality. J.S. Mill claims that morality is a calculation of happiness and that a moral duty only exists if we know it produces more good than bad. Ultimately, this makes being moral part of the ultimate goal of achieving happiness and pleasure, which the philosopher Epicurus also supports. J.S. Mill’s views on morality make sense above all others because no matter what example of a moral is given, the preferred result will always come back to what creates more happiness and minimizes pain. Why not murder? Because it will cause misery for many people. Why give a man his wallet back after finding it in a bathroom? Because it will bring him happiness. The reason for all actions of good moral is to maximize the happiness derived from the situation. Thinking about the happiness caused by an action is a much more reliable way to find solutions to a situation rather than solely relying on some moral “principles” that may or may not even be the best
