Hannah CopelandWeek 2 Assignment Nov-16-2018CHFD2201.What is the message of the popular media cartoon, or advertisement?
Hannah CopelandWeek 2 Assignment Nov-16-2018CHFD220Nursing homes are experience increasing rates of sexually transmitted disease because of the non-protected sex that goes on with the residents in the facilities. Between 2007-2011 rates ofchlamydia in nursing homes increased 31 percent, and syphilis cases rose 52 percent. (Quinn 2015) Seniors are more acceptable to transmitted diseases because their immune systems are weaker. The problem is lack of attention from the public health departments. A lot of people seem to think it is “silly” to provided sexual contraceptives to nursing homes, due to the ignorance of the idea that sex doesn’t exist when you get older. In my opinion this cartoon speaks on the idea of the media being so shocked that senior citizens are having sexual intercourse. In order to prevent the spread of disease and health risks I believe there should be sexual educational courses being held at the nursing homes. There also needs to be in-depth health screenings of potential residents before they are allowed a spot. That way the awareness of what diseases are coming into the facilities can be prominent and the potential spreading could be prevented.
