Scott AngellGOVT 230618thJune 2018Objective: Use examples from the movie to explain the politics of Texas’ justice systemin application of criminal proceedings and the nature of corrections policy to illustrate meaning of the statement “lock em up” mentality; and create an argument supporting rehabilitation or incarceration as the best correctional policy approach to dealing with criminals in Texas.Watching the FBS ‘Death by Fire’ documentary was a hard watch. It was not a case that I had any familiarity with prior to watching the documentary and so I certainly did not come in with any pre-judgements on the documentary or the subjects involved. However, I can say that I do have a strong opinion on the matter of capital punishment as a sentence for a crime. One thing that became clear in the documentary was the influence that politics can have, whetherpositively or negatively, over the justice system.Personally, when it comes to capital punishment I am against the use of it. It does not matter the crime committed (whether it be the murder of an individual in a drug deal, throughto a mass school shooting), I believe that any form of capital punishment is wrong. A large part of this belief stems from the way I was raised. I grew up in England and did not move to the US until I was in my early twenties.
