Abstract – The purpose of the Observation of Fiber Structure with Crossed Polars and Red Plate lab is to enhance student’s techniques with the typical longitudinal mount while examining different textile fibers in oil to see the fiber structure with crossed polars and red plate. Also, the lab will continue to train students with the microscope to become handy with the tool and to display how the microscope can be used as tools for examining fibers. The procedure of the lab will consist of examining pieces of eight different fibers with oil through the compound microscope while using the typical longitudinal mount. When the lab is complete students should be familiar with all of the common parts of the compound microscope and establish a visual picture of eight different textile fibers by examining these fibers structure with crossed polars and red plate.
