Abstract – The purpose of the Textile Fiber and the Microscope lab is to introduce students in training with the microscope to become handy with the tool and to practice examining textile fibers with the microscopes use of ordinary light. The procedure of the lab will consist of examining pieces of fibers through the compound microscope and developing a familiarity with the parts and uses of the compound microscope. When the lab is complete students should be familiar with all of the common parts of the compound microscope and establish a visual picture of three different textile fibers and their visibility in air, water, and oil. Introduction – In the lab students are directed to retrieve the compound microscope and fibers in order to examine the specimens in three different environments which are air, water, and oil. Each slide plate will be filled with the different specimens to create a visual representation of what is displayed through the microscope. Objective –
