Eli Quinn LOBO Worksheet January 30, 2007 Evaluating Resources – Evaluate Articles 5.2.1 Describe—in detail and in your own words—the difference between scholarly journal articles and popular magazine articles. Scholarly articles are written for a specific audience which normally consists of professors, students, and teachers. Popular magazine articles are normally written for a general audience. 5.2.2 Why do you think many instructors require students to use scholarly journal articles instead of popular magazine articles? Because students can get more valuable information from a scholarly journal article than they can get from a popular magazine article. Using Resources – Understand Plagiarism 6.1.1 Which of the above examples of plagiarism do you think is the most common? Why? restating someone else's original or specialized ideas without citing the source because most people believe that if they just restate the authors words then its not considered plagiarism. 6.1.2 Do you think these are appropriate consequences for plagiarism? Why or why not?
