Normal Body Changes that Occur Through Puberty into Young Adulthood Firstly, secondary sex characteristics mature during this period. For example, 8-year-old girls begin to experience budding of breasts and develop hair at their pubic regions and beneath their arms (De Guzman, 2007). Whereas, boys’ testicular areas begin to grow at age 11 and they also experience hair growth at their pubic areas and underarms. They also start to break their voice. At age 13 and 11of boys and girls respectively, they experience spurt growth due to hormonal influences. At this period, girls are usually taller than boys, even though with time boys overcome girls’ height, in the end, they become taller than girls (De Guzman, 2007). They are both likely to register 4-inch height increment.

Thirdly, boys and girls in puberty stage undergo changes in body proportions where fat tissues and muscles increase to make them appear more adult-like. They experience an increment in muscle/fat tissues. Girls’ fat tissues increase while boys’ muscle tissues increase. Due to faster increment and movement of fatty tissues, girls begin to have a curvier appearance. When puberty stage ends, boys are likely to have nearly one and a half times as muscle tissues as girls.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
