1 Science Fiction has shown to be incredibly difficult to define because of how one perceives the genre and the elements involved. It has been explained as a combination of, science, aliens, crime, spaceships and of course; a lot of lasers. As a genre based on the imaginations of not only the author, but the reader as well, this creates a form of fantastic fiction and historical literature one can be indulged in and day dream about endlessly. The science genre has also been argued that science fiction narratives are the most engaged, socially relevant, and responsive to the modern technological environment, but most importantly provides a layout to the “what if’s” through many forms of sources. This Very Short Introduction doesn't offer a history of science fiction, but instead ties examples of science fiction to different historical moments, to demonstrate how science fiction has developed over time. David Seed looks not only at literature, but also at drama and poetry, as well as film. Through inspecting repeated themes in science fiction, he looks at voyages into space, the concept of the alien and alternative social identities, the role of technology in science fiction, and its relation to time not only in the past, but present and future as well. David Seed’s book presents an overall amazing short overview of some of the most important Sci-fi writers of all time: “H.G. Wells, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Ursula K. Le Guin” (David), and many others. In my opinion; though vague at times with no referencing what so ever; this piece of literature is a very nice and historically well-researched through its introduction, as well as a very helpful insight for those, like me, who does not know much about science fiction with plenty of references to some of the most influential works of science fiction to date.

2 The first phase of this short introduction is the theme of “Voyages into space” (David). One of the main elements associated with science fiction according to Seed is the space ship. ‘Voyages into space explores’ this space theme and the technologies advances placed in space and how transportation is viewed through the eyes of a science fiction writer; through the theme and the plot line of the journey into space. There is a continuity between space flight and the sea journeys in earlier works such as films like Interstellar, Star Trek, and even Event Horizon, which functions as a devise for
