Discuss how performance appraisals are a function of HR and management.Explain the advantages of performance appraisals and how they contribute to effective training and development.Human resource management is the strategic approach to helping a business gain the competitive advantage by maximizing performance of employees and to do this there are performance appraisals. Performance appraisals is when an employee’s performance is reviewed, and corrective action is taken to fix any downfalls and improve their future performance. “Performance appraisal is the process through which employee performance is assessed, feedback is provided to the employee, and corrective action plans are designed,” (Youssef, 2015). Performance appraisals shows an employee’s strengths and weaknesses as well as how much for ability that they must further their career. The performance appraisals are done annuallyand presented to employees for their year’s performance.
