ASSESSMENT TASK 1 WHS Management Systems for Australian Hardware As part of the proposed WHS Management Systems for Australian Hardware, the work health and safety programs of the business must be reviewed to ensure that program is specific, appropriate and up to date. Introduction or amendment of policies must be considered. In this case. the Australian Hardware must review the procedures regarding the following: the manual lifting of outdoor furniture and hardware goods in warehouses and in customer service areas. hazardous materials handling by forklift drivers, drivers and customer service staff. These two contribute a lot in the Lost Time To Injury Frequency Rate(LTIFR) of the business. To resolve that issue, the Australian Hardware must introduce a policy in accordance with WHS requirements. Such policy may include that all heavy furniture and hardware goods must be done using a forklift. In addition to that, hazardous materials must be properly packed and handled and employees must have proper training in handling these hazardous materials to avoid injuries. These new as well as the existing policies must be documented in the business and posted in the workplace in a convenient and accessible location so that everyone can refer to it whenever needed. In line with that, it is the role and responsibility of the store manager as well as the department managers to ensure that these new and existing policies are properly communicated with the employees and that these policies are being monitored regularly. It is also very important that training and induction programs must be given to new employees and that the current employees must be given refreshment trainings from time to time. Also, there must be a constant documenting of procedures as well as recording of health and safety issues as part of the monitoring and controlling process. Lastly, for a WHS management system to be successful it needs to have the commitment of senior management, so communication with senior management is essential at all stages of this process. On the other hand, the resources involve in these proposed WHS Management Systems are human resources including the time and effort of the management to provide training and monitoring and the employees time and effort to undergo the training, physical resources like the room needed for the training as well as purchasing additional equipment that are related to the new policies like extra forklifts and financial resources that include the budget for the training of the employees. The estimate financial resources for providing 2 hours of training to all the employees of 138 stores will be $ 521,640.00.
