Anyone who believes that America is a place for equality is believing lies. America is a place of freedom but it is not a place of equal opportunities. Dwyer Gunn put out this report to look at the gaps in income, education, and wealth over the last 50 years. In 1967 a report was released stating, "This is our basic conclusion: Our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white – separate and unequal. Discrimination and segregation have long permeated much of American life; they now threaten the future of every American. ... To pursue our present course will involve the continuing polarization of the American community and, ultimately, the destruction of basic democratic values."
