2 Musical Artist Whitney Houston Whitney Houston was one of the greatest musicians in the world, and she had a major impact on the music industry. She raised the bar and she broke many records, and made it difficult for another artist to accomplish the things she has. Whitney was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey to her single mother Cissy Houston. Her mother was the choir director at New Hope Baptist Church, and this is where Whitney really discovered her talent. When Whitney was a teenager she would travel all over with her mother and the choir. It was then when Whitney was discovered for her outstanding beauty. She became the first African- American woman on the front of Seventeen magazine. The song that I chose was “ I will Always Love You”, originally written and performed by Dolly Parton. This song proved how talented Ms. Houston, and the rest of the world was able to capture her true talents also through this song. When she was 19, Whitney Houston was discovered in a nightclub by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista Records, who signed her immediately and took the helm of her career as she navigated from gospel to pop stardom ( Biography).
