He starts off with the notion that all individuals who went to college are doing well and in highly paid jobs. There is empirical evidence to the contrary as one could have gone through college and subsequently failed to secure employment rendering this theory nugatory. The suggestion by Wolfers that 50 poor people would make better use of $1,000 each as opposed to giving $50,000 to one person in student debt is not plausible. The question then would be who applies for student loans? No one applies for these loans for the sake of it. Therefore, although all students may not be poor, majority cannot afford college education hence the need for loans. As Wolfers points out, if this proposed bailout is done once there would be no reason not to do it repeatedly creating a cycle of dependence and expectation by the borrowers. The
