Typology of gangs Gangs have different characteristics with some affiliated to drugs, violence, neighborhoods etc. They begun as a result of social disorganization in quickly growing urban areas Most gangs were male dominated but females were used as conduits since they were less likely to be suspected of criminal activities. Gangs are divided depending on:- a) Behavior – They desired to live a better life that was out of their reach. Out of frustration, they resulted in non-conformists alternatives. (Scavenger gangs, corporate gangs, territorial gangs) b) Structure – Gang size, ethnicity, location etc. Provide an acceptable definition of the word gang. It has youths who identified with illegal activities and have accepted that kind of lifestyle.

Gangs were first heard of in America in 1783. on the East Coast when the American Revolution ended. Gangs initially emerged in four regions: the Midwest, South, West and the Northeast. They are elementary in their organization and are quite often spontaneous in their formation. They were pushed by poverty among the white large families and immigrant groups in urban areas forming communities to overcome hardships.
