Discuss the relationship between special education teachers, general educators, and other colleagues
in creating safe, culturally responsive learning environments in order to engage in meaningful
learning activities and social interactions.
In my experience of being a teacher, I have noticed a change in the classroom environment when
collaboration happens between the special education teachers, general education teachers, and
A lot of communication must go on between these professional educators to create a
safe and culturally responsive learning environment for all children to strive academically and
socially. The opinions and comments made by these professional educators should be considered
when planning instruction for students. One must get to know the child; their likes and dislikes.
The teachers must come together to discuss the different activities that the child likes to
participate in. Teachers must also discuss how the child learns best, whether its kinesthetically, or
visually. It is important that all the stakeholders responsible for the child’s education be involved
with designing and carrying out the plan that will help in making the learning environment
enjoyable and safe for all children (Wheeler, 2014).
Meaningful contributions must be made by all the professionals involved in order to create a plan
that will work. The teachers must share a vision and a mission for the child when planning for
the children with challenging behaviors. All members must be involved and make meaningful
contributions since each member has a different level of expertise (Wheeler, 2014).
