What is a comic book? Payden Belk 10/3/18, WBIS 188, Dominic Bruni There's a lot of stereotypes out in the world about comic books especially here in the United States. Many stereotypes include comic books are for children, and comic books are “gay” or “nerdy. Or even comic books are just for boys. All these given stereotypes and several more are simply not true. Most often people that believe in these stereotypes have never tried to read a comic book are even understood the material that they are trying to read. The official dictionary definition of a comic book is a magazine that presents a serialized story in the form of a comic strip, typically featuring the adventures of a superhero. This definition may be true but there's lot more to what a comic book is. First of all, to understand what a comic book is, you should understand the difference between this and a graphic novel. Even though graphic novels are very entertaining, they are everything from comic books. Comic books are typically much shorter, while graphic novels can be quite extensive and much more complex. Graphic novel’s stories take up one or two books; while comic books tell a story with many as 5 to 6 single issues. This eventually turns into something called a trade paperback.
