According to USA Today, "70% of people age 65 or older will require some form of long-term care during their lives." (USA Today, 2017) It's important not to underestimate the cost of long-term care when thinkingof your future. I would advise my parents to think about cost in all manners that may include nursing facilities, home care and/or hospice care. Long-term care can range from an adult day-care, to minimal in home health care, to something as extensive as an assisted living facility or nursing home. Starting a savings plan to cover the range of costs that might not be covered by Medicaid is crucial. Also advise them to immediately determine their Medicaid eligibility, and have them apply for benefits immediately.
