2 MANAGING A PROJECT SCHEDULE Introduction What is a work breakdown Structure in project management? Work breakdown structure is when a deliverable oriented breakdown of a smaller projects into various components. A work breakdown structure is a key project deliverable that organizes the team’s work into manageable sections. () When analyzing the data sets need to be well organized. The results should consist of several hypotheses, determination finding, proof of findings coordinating between team members and information sharing. It is very important that information is shared and accessible for all team members in a form of documentation, which will ensure that each team member has received and acknowledge the receipt of all documents and communications among team members. This should eliminate any miscommunication among the team and enhances communication. To ensure a successful project there are quite of few tools and techniques that have been proven to be helpful in facilitating the communication levels for the success of a project. Collaborative thinking as a team focuses on the collective knowledge and thinking of a group and changes the dynamic of the way a group interacts with one another. The WBS is structured to provide a detailed cost estimate as well as provide guidance for the development of a schedule and keeping it under control. WBS may be used a long with a project proposal requiring the documentation for the project manager to structure a plan checklist to keep the project running on time and track all deliverables.
3 MANAGING A PROJECT SCHEDULE Those functions are laid out in a hierarchy of larger jobs to get done, the smaller tasks needed to do those more important jobs, and what have you and more detail until one gets to the most detailed tasks required (Cobb, 2012)." To read the information given one would think we are discussing how to create list of tasks. In some ways this may be correct however the work breakdown structure is by far more professional. Importance of Developing a WBS to Manage a Project A work breakdown structure lets project managers plan their work more efficiently. A project is characterized by time-limited activities and is assigned fixed time frames and costs. When it is finished, a project must fulfill the stakeholder needs it was designed to address. The Project management has to plan for the schedule, the fixed costs and the functional completeness of the project and assign responsibilities. The WBS helps make this planning consistent and provides for effective project execution. (.) WBS Contributes to the Success of a Project The purpose of a WBS is to reduce complicated activities to a collection of tasks. This is important for the project manager because she can oversee the tasks more effectively than the complex activities. Tasks must be measurable and independent, with clearly defined limits.
