SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TEST: The specific gravity of cement is used in the design and control of concrete mixtures. Specific gravity is also used as an index for the quality of cement. II. MATERIALS AND APPARATUS: Le Chatelier's flask with cover and anchor weights balance water bath and thermometer kerosene rubber pad or lags III. PRECAUTIONS: 1. Do not use water in washing the flask. Use only kerosene. 2. Maintain the temperature of kerosene to 20+0.10C to obtain an accurate result. IV. TEST PROCEDURE: 1. Fill the flask with kerosene just a little over the 1 cc mark such that the reading in step 3 will be between 0 to 1 cc. Dry the neck inside the flask by wiping it with a clean absorbent cloth.
