NURS 6501N-10 Week 2: Main Post Maladaptive Responses to Immune Disorders Dysfunction of the immune system is called an immune disorder. The two immune disorders selected for this week’s discussion are the Psoriasis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Pathophysiology of Psoriasis Psoriasis is a common chronic, persistent or relapsing, scaling skin condition. It is a prototype form of psoriasiform dermatitis (Hammer & McPhee, 2014, p. 190-191). Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory papulosquamous disease characterized by multiple remissions and relapses. For long, it was believed to be primarily a disorder of keratinization. However, the successful use of traditional immunosuppressants and newer immunomodulatory agents in the treatment of psoriasis led to the belief that psoriasis is primarily a disease of Th1 cell immune dysregulation (Mahajan, & Handa,2013). Pathophysiology of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a prototype systemic autoimmune rheumatoid disease, characterized by chronic inflammatory injury to, and subsequent damage of, multiple organ systems.
