THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG BACHELOR OF SCIENCE : FINAL EXAMINATION RADIOISOTOPE UNIT: (87202) RADIATION PROTECTION May 7, 1998 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. (i) Answer 4 out of 5 questions. Question no. 1 (short answer questions) is compulsory. Start each of the 4 questions on a new page. (ii) Question no. 1 carries 40 marks. Other 4 questions carry 20 marks each. (iii) Candidates may use any self-contained, silent, battery-operated and pocket-sized calculator. The calculator should have numeral-display facilities only and should be used only for the purposes of calculation. lt is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that his calculator operates satisfactorily. (A) Briefly describe the classification of lasers and the possible hazards related to each class. (B) What is the maximum magnetic intensity in a plane electromagnetic wave which carries a maximum electric field intensity of 10 V 1 ? What is the power density of this wave?
