Leah Sowerbutts 6/11/18 Coral Bleaching Should we provide more resources to help save the Coral Reefs? Coral reefs are some of the most biologically rich and economically valuable ecosystems on Earth. The coral community is a large system that includes a diverse collection of biological ecosystems. They are made up of sea anemones and jellyfish. Various coral species tend to be segregated into characteristic zones on a reef, separated by competition of other species and environmental conditions. They provide protections to millions of people and ocean life around the world. However, due to the increasing impact of pollution, invasive species, diseases, bleaching, and global warming, they are in danger of disappearing. One of the main problems associated with global warming is bleaching. Bleaching is when the increasing temperature in seawater and many support the fact that this process is what is decaying the barrier reefs. Because of mass bleachings, reefs could potentially be extinct by the year 2100. Unless carbon emissions are reduced, the average lifespan of coral reefs will drop
