2BYSTANDER INTERVENTION IN COLLEGES AbstractCollege campus have been known to have the highest cases of rape occurring on campus, but theleast reported. Many students who become victims to this rape chose not to report it and suffer insilence. Although they have to report it so their abuser can face the full extent of the law, rapes tothis day are truly hard to prove when it becomes the victims’ words against the abusers. For this reason, one can understand why the victim would not like further increase the trauma by retellingthe story in front of a jury. The embarrassment and pains makes just being silent and dealing withit sound like a better option. But the college campus is a largely populated place. There are very few places that no one is there. As most 0of these rapes also have alcohol involved the victim is usually impaired and not able to make clear decisions. This only makes me wonder where everyone is? Someone saw what happened and either chose to do nothing or didn’t know what todo. A bystanders account could be very instrumental in prosecuting the rapist as the victim usually doesn’t not recall the events that led to rape. Bystanders are a very useful tool in both preventing rape and also bringing the abuser to face the law. But have they been educated to this point. Has anyone looked into bystanders and their reason for not stopping Research ProblemThe objective of this research is to find out whether bystanders are being educated on the dangers of them not intervening in a possible rape or not reporting it. The social norms around campus is everyone not wanting to be called the snitch. Once you are known as a snitch this will cause the persona to face isolation by peers. No one wants to be isolated, for that matter when bystanders observe some one pouring a strange substance into someone’s drink or some one
