Think Globally Education Reform The social issue presented related to our Education Reform is due to the fact that learning is not a one size fits all process and the concept of no child left behind is not working. The real irony to this concept is that since this implementation, the drop-out rate has increased and more children are being left behind. The point of view is that one size doesn’t fit all and alternative methods are real and they do work. There are three principles in order for our minds to thrive. The first involves different and diversity in order to keep students engaged. The second is to keep students curious since curiosity lends to learning naturally. The third is creativity which is currently hindered by standardized testing and the preparation for the test. Our children are like seeds and the seeds thrive and grow when given the proper climate. The possibilities are endless (Robinson, n.d.). An alternative opinion related to standardized curriculum and testing has given us benchmarks for math, reading, and writing. Each student walking out of high school having the same core skill set. This helps students with college readiness and preparedness. Testing is fundamental to showing the success within our schools. While no one likes to test, improvements have occurred over the years, since the standardized testing began, and like everything, the implementation phase was a little rough but has improved over time (NewsHour, 2015). My opinion related to Education Reform is that there are absolutely issues with our current methods and that alternative options are considered, encouraged, and accepted. Two of my three children participated in alternative schooling options, one being a blended classroom for the fourth and fifth grade, the other was in an alternative work/school arrangement for tenth grade and achieved two years in one in order to attend a vocational school for the last two years of high school.
