Dr. Panavelil, In accordance with the JNC 8 recommendations for hypertension management, first line of therapy for patients is limited to four classes of antihypertensive medications (Arcangelo, Peterson, Wilbur, & Reinhold, 2017). The patient needs to be on a thiazide diuretic, therefore I would keep the patient on HCTZ 25 mg QID. I would discontinue the Atenolol and Verapamil. Then, place the patient on amlodipine 5 mg daily, which is a more peripheral calcium channel blocker compared to verapamil (Arcangelo et al., 2017). This treatment regimen would follow
