HIERARCHY OF NEEDS 2AbstractAbraham Maslow came up with one of the most studied theories in various fields such as Psychology and Management. The model is not only relevant to these fields but also a useful andrelevant criterion for an individual to evaluate where he or she is at a given instance in life. The theory, hierarchy of needs, is constructed in five stages of needs whereby one must satisfy a lower need before heading on to the next. The hierarchy of needs model is immensely pertinent to several of the present and past aspects of my life as discussed in this paper. From childhood experiences to involvements in professional life, the concept of hierarchy of needs is applicable in various facets of my life. Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs model in relation to personal life forms the basis of this paper. Keywords: Abraham, Maslow, hierarchy, needs, life
HIERARCHY OF NEEDS 3BackgroundThey say one of the greatest experiences in life is that of being a child. Well, for me, childhood proved to rhyme with this saying. I was a raised in a family of three whereby I was theonly child. Not that I was spoiled, but my parents ensured that I had everything I needed. In addition to ensuring that I never lacked anything, my parents were always at the forefront of molding me into a believer of every beneficial activity I was involved in, be it school or other activities. Whenever I failed in both personal life and school, they made me learn from the experience so as to do better in the future. They also made me understand that failing is a part and parcel of life. For me, the encouragement received from my parents as a child played a key role in boosting my esteem, optimism and confidence that I could make every single of my dreams come true. Therefore, my parents did an exceptional job as far as satisfying my esteem needs is concerned.
