5-2 Final Project Milestone Three: DBMS Research and Recommendation2RELATIONAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMMany factors are used in determining which Database Management System (DBMS) is best when installing a new database. For Westlake Research Hospital, the new database will initially be used for tracking results from the new double-blind study for a new depression medication. One of the more important factors the hospital will require is the ability to set the appropriate access permissions to the database. If administrators cannot set the appropriate levels of security for users, the study’s results could end up being compromised, making the study’s results useless.Due to the privacy regulations associated with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), it is critical for the hospital to protect patient data and only provide accessedto those with the proper clearance.Aside from access control, usability is another high-ranking factor in selecting a new database. The database will be accessed by many individuals, such as doctors, patients and researchers, during the study. These users will need be able to effectively access and use the database, based on their access needs. Finally, the database must be able to generate reports and query results in an easy to read user friendly format. Like many other projects, cost will be a major factor in determining which database Westlake Research Hospital will choose. In selecting the DBMS, the application’s costs need to be accounted for and considered during the decision-making process. The costs can include the purchase price of the application itself and hardware costs to purchase components needed to make the existing system compatible to the requirements of the database software. Next would be costs associated with service and support, do we go with an in-house or pay a third party for servicing the DBMS. Additionally, if the company chooses a cloud-based solution there will be costs associated with hosting your application and data. While cost is a significant factor in
