Unit 4 Lesson 8 Name- Catherine Dienert Period- AP Comp Sci Principles-2 Date- 20 November 2018 Cybersecurity and Crime One-Pager Template WannaCry Ransomware 2017 Overview -WannaCry spread rapidly beginning in May of 2017 -Notably attacked U.S. National Security Agency and Britain’s National Health Service -Linked to the Lazarus group which may be connected to the North Korean Government -Hackers use this to get Bitcoin from those hacked How and How to Prevent Suspicious email links, emails, or files are opened and used to hack into servers. Software that is not up to date makes your computer more vulnerable to this type of attack. Ransomware comes in the form of a dropper, which doesn’t seem suspicious from the outside and comes in the form of files or emails. WannaCry encrypts data an then demands $300 in BItcoin from the person being hacked. The best way o prevent an attack from WannaCry is to update software and not open any suspicious emails or click on anything that seems suspicious. WannaCry is spread most quickly through file sharing systems.
