MILESTONE ONE: PLANNED PARENTHOOD 2 Milestone One: Planned Parenthood Business Profile Planned Parenthood of America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving people access to resources to manage their own fertility, through medical support, education, and political lobbying. Planned Parenthood delivers fundamental reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of people worldwide. The organization does not discriminate due to race, gender, nationality, income, or other factors that could affect delivery of equal care (Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc., “Facts and Figures”, 2018). Over the past 100 years, Planned Parenthood has impacted so many people all around the world and communities everywhere throughout the world. Planned Parenthood was founded in 1916, when Margaret Sanger, the organizations founder, opened the very first birth control clinic in America. Margaret Sanger was a leading advocate of the eugenics movement, women’s rights and the birth control movement. She founded the American Birth Control League (ABCL), in 1921, that aimed to educate and promote the founding of birth control clinics by allowing women to be able to control their own fertility (Cullen-DuPont, 2014). In 1942, the ABCL changed its name of what we know is the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc. Today, the organization is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable health care for both men and women. According to Planned Parenthood, between 2016 to 2017, the organization provided care to more than 2.4 million people all around the world including its 600 health care centers across the country (Planned Parenthood, “Annual Report”, 2017). Revenue generated for the organization was $1.354 Billion, receiving over $500 million in government funding, equaling to roughly $77 million in profit (Planned Parenthood, “Annual Report”, 2017). Notwithstanding its

One key piece of Planned Parenthood is its abortion advocacy. The organization spends an enormous amount of resources educating the general public about abortion, its risks and alternatives. Planned Parenthood states, “Everyone has their own unique and valid reasons for having an abortion. The staff at your local Planned Parenthood health center is always here to provide judgment-free support at any point in your pregnancy experience, not matter what you decide to do or how you feel about it.” (Planned Parenthood, “Considering Abortion”, 2018). Although 321,382 abortions were performed by Planned Parenthood in 2017, the organization performed the fewest abortions in the last couple of previous years. The organization performs about one-third of annual U.S. abortions, making
