BUSINESS PLANExecutive SummaryOur Company:Talbert’s PYO Farm provides the local community with an opportunity to pick their own strawberries, blackberries and raspberries in the spring and summer; pick apples and pumpkins inthe fall; and cut their own Christmas Trees in the winter. Families no longer have to drive long distances to visit the closest apple orchard, pumpkin patch or Christmas tree farm. The Opportunity:There is a large demand for the products and services provided by a PYO Farm in our area. And as consumers are more interested in buying organic and purchasing fresh fruits, PYO Farms are growing in popularity. A typical PYO Farm specializes in one particular crop, but at our farm families can enjoy a variety of options, year round.Target Market:Our target market is the young, adventurous family, looking to begin new traditions. We’ve found that our consumers tend to be the more out-going types that enjoy spending time harvesting their own fruits. Furthermore, social media trends indicate a steady rise in popularity for these types of activities. Sales and Marketing:A majority of the Farm’s business will be generated from within the local community. For this reason we rely heavily on a favorable customer experiences and generous word-of-mouth recommendations to generate sales. The Competition:Likely competitors include local supermarkets, farmer’s markets and the future emergence of other PYO Farms. We will continue to set ourselves apart from the competition by offering our customers unique agri-tourism experiences, competitive pricing and high quality products.Finances:Initial start-up costs for this business could reach $500,000 with approximately two years of preparation before the first sale can be made. However, after opening, year one sales are projected to exceed $400,000 with a potential year one profit of $250,000. 3
BUSINESS PLANThe CompanyTalbert’s PYO Farm is family owned with over 30 acres of land located in Philadelphia, NY. We grow strawberries, blackberries and raspberries, available for picking during the spring and summer months. As fall approaches we open up our apple orchards and our pumpkin patchesfor a variety of fun family activities. But the traditions don’t stop there. As temperatures drop, families can also visit the farm to cut their own Christmas Trees. At our farm we work hard and take pride in growing high quality fruits that families can enjoy year after year. The idea for a pick your own farm was inspired by our own family’s desire to experience the fresh country environment. But what we found was a lack of options in our own local community. We decided to change that!
