I elected to pick one of each area: 1. South America MANTLE WITH DOUBLE FISH PATTERN Paracas Necropolis, Peru. Paracas culture, 1st century CE The Nazca people were known for their technically complex textiles. The textiles were woven by women from cotton and wool. The dry desert has preserved the textiles; Shawls, dresses, tunics, belts, and bags have been found through excavations at Cahuachi. Almost every body found buried, is in a textile as what seems part of burial ritual. Most patterns reflected the world that surrounded them, hunting, fishing, and farming. Many people lived off fish, so the decorated textiles with fish was a common theme. 2. North America PELICAN FIGUREHEAD Key Marco, Florida. Florida Glades culture, c. 1000 CE. This figure head was carved in life-like detail. Mostly for decoration, it is made out of wood that was then painted. Since it was found in south Florida it was preserved due to its wet muck environment (marshland) that preserved even painted wooden artifacts for hundreds of years.
