Serena Cheyne Moeller 10/11/2018 Ms. Loughborough Sumerians vs Phoenicians Both Mesopotamia (Sumerian) and Mediterranean (Phoenician) civilizations are similar in some ways; writing, codes of laws, music, religion, literature, record-keeping and a very similarclimate. However they both differ in many ways such as their religions, politics, architecture andculture. Let’s start off with the Sumerians; they arrived in the area of Sumer in the mesopotamian region of the fertile crescent (situated between Tigris and Euphrates rivers) around 4500 to 4000 B.C.E. They were known as creators of civilization and recognized by their culture, language, and architecture. They had a polytheistic religion; they worshiped the sun, moon and star gods. The architecture of the Sumerians included buildings of terracotta with mosaics and sculpture. Ziggurats began to appear around 2200 B.C.E. They had a very impressive literature culture which was written in cuneiform, including the Epic
