2According to Article 7A of the General Business Law (NYS), a private security personnel, or commonly referred to as a security guard, is a person (other than a police officer) employed to carry out the following functions: Protecting persons and their properties from harm, theft or any other unlawful activity; deterring,observing, detecting or reporting unauthorized or unlawful activities; conducting street patrol services and responding to security alarm system (Siegel, & Worall, 2016). Given that duties of security personnel are defined within the law, it is important that theyall understand and adhere to the law to put themselves to required levels of security professionals other than those of mere security technicians (Sparrow, 2014). First, the personnel have to know eligibility requirements of their professions. One has to be at least 18 years of age, and must be a lawful resident and citizen of the United States. The personnel must show a background that has no any history of felony or criminal offence (Nemeth, 2017). Nonetheless, an individual may be disqualified on the basis of previous cases of drug or alcohol abuse. Scope of Private PolicingPrivate company security personnel have to understand limitation of their employment scope. Public and private security teams can collaborate in matters that require joint investigations, urban renovation activities and information sharing initiatives (Nemeth, 2017).
