1 RUNNING HEAD: MILESTONE 3 5-2 Milestone 3 November 27, 2018 Physics and Earth Science Brandon Bryant
2 MILESTONE 3 Physics: Laws: Newtons laws affect everything around us, including our phones. Newton’s third law of motion states “states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction.” (NASA, 2017). When my friend calls my number, he is sending a signal across multiple cell phone towers. Then, the signal is transferred to my phone, which causes it to ring and vibrate. My phone would not have done that, unless my friend had called my number. Discovery: Sir Isaac Newton discovered the three laws of motion and presented his work in 1687. The three laws are; “A body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will remain in motion unless it is acted upon by an external force.”, “The force acting on an object is equal to the mass of that object times its acceleration.”, and “or every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” (Gillespie, 2018). Progress: These laws haven’t changed. That’s why they are so important, as they won’t ever change. Unless gravity, momentum and everything cease to be, these laws will be here (Gillespie, 2018). Earth Science: Materials: Cell phones are made up of crude oil (glass and plastic), lithium metallic oxide (battery), cooper, gold, lead, silver, and palladium (circuit boards). The materials are extracted from the earth and
3 MILESTONE 3 processed into the parts needed to make the cell phones. This uses a lot of natural resources and energy that can affect our air, land, and water (epa.gov, 2018)
