In 1951 the victory in Hernandez vs. Texas became a landmark case that impacted the lives of many Mexican Americans. The case brought to light the social hierarchy that is established and the unfair treatment that Mexican Americans experienced in all areas of life. The issue was that the fate of Pedro Hernandez was in the hands of an all anglo-jury and was being denied a jury of his own peers. This very well, can lead to some biases/stereotypes which could negatively persuade the decision of the judges, especially if many of these judges have never encountered Mexicans Americans before or have any preconceived notions of Mexican Americans. This systematic exclusion shows that Mexican Americans were not seen as equal and worthy of sitting in the judgement of whites, although they were considered "white" themselves.
