In theUnited States, more than a million people were infected with the HIV by the end of2006. Arcangelo and Peterson (2013) attributes the increase in HIV to limited health care access, and lack of education on prevention and transmission of HIV. According to Hurley (2018), there were almost a million people worldwide that died from conditions related to AIDS in 2017. Hurley (2018) also stated that only 22 million of the 37 million people infected with HIV have access to treatment. This author attributed the rolling back of advances toward ending HIV/AIDS to complacency and reduced funding.Karim and Karim (2018) stated that highly effective treatment of about 30 new antiretroviral drugs, has given people living with HIV an almost normal life span and instilled hope in communities. Compliance has also improved through simplified, low-cost, one-pill-a-day, three-drug combination regimens with minimal side effects compared to when patients had to take multiple drugs. Also,
HIV transmission from expectant mothers to babies has been reduced to such low levels that plans for its global elimination are under way. These advances have eased the pain and suffering from AIDS, creating the impression that the epidemic is no longer important.
