Laura V. Gonzalez Journal Entry History 1302 The most important part of history I believed that the most important part about the Civil Rights movement was when Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his speech about “I have a Dream” because it helped to spread the idea of the Civil Rights movement as a moral and ethical imperative as opposed to solely a political one. It helped to bring out the idea of supporting the Civil Rights for African-Americans was of importance in the idea that it supported the Human Rights. This movement sought to restore to African Americans the right to citizenship guaranteed by the fourteenth and fifteenth Amendments, which had been eroded by segregationist Jim Crow Laws in the South. It fundamentally altered relations between the federal government and the states, as the federal government was forced many times to enforce its law and protect the rights of African American citizens.
