Identify the character and the literary work he or she appears in.
Della Dillingham, is the character in the “Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry (1906). Della
interests me because I can easily identify with wanting to provide someone a very
nice gift despite her financial situation because she is in love with her partner and
she is completely selfless, loving and warm.
The theme of the story is sacrifice, and
Della giving up her most precious possession to give her husband a Christmas gift.
Della’s external conflict is with Christmas Eve approaching she has to buy Jim a
present, but she only has $1.82. Della chooses to sacrifice her appearance to give up
