(a) Derive an algebraic expression for the bicycle's  average speed  v av  for the entire trip  in terms of v 1  and v 2 .  Please simplify your expression if possible.  Does v av  depend on  the distance D?  [HINT:  The answer is  not   (v 1  + v 2 )/2.] (b) What value does your expression give for v av  if v 2  = v 1 ?  Is this what you expect? (c) Suppose v 2  is a lot larger than v 1 .  What would you expect v av  to be?  [If you have  difficulty, try plugging in some numbers – you should see a trend.]  Explain in one or two  sentences why.   (d)
