ASSIGNMENT 2 AVM4700 CAMPBELL 2 Assignment 2 AVM 4700 1. An airworthiness certificate is a certificate issued by the local CAA once the aircraft has received its approved type certificate. The airworthiness certificate verifies that that aircraft has been manufactured according to the FAA's standards and meets its airworthiness requirements. In order to receive the type and airworthiness certificate, the aircraft is subject to a series of inspections as well as ground and flight tests to verify the aircraft meets airworthiness. The airworthiness certificate remains valid with that aircraft as long as all the inspections and maintenance for that aircraft is complied with. An airworthiness certificate is issued for specific registration and tail number of aircraft. An airworthiness directive is issued if a problem arises which impacts safety. These work similar to recalls on automobiles however one of the key differences if that aircraft is no longer airworthy until that AD has been addressed. Airworthiness certificates together with airworthiness directives ensure that the aircraft we fly remain safe and operational. Defects and troubleshooting problems, especially with aircraft, can be difficult so these measures have been put in place to assist us. 2. Birds are a hazard to aviation because of the devastating effects they can have when aircraft collide with them. When it comes to smaller aircraft a bird strike can result in structural damage and even affect the airworthiness of the aircraft. When it comes to aircraft which operate with turbofan engines bird strikes become a very serious issue.
