2Course Description: This course will introduce students to the main concepts of the global
3health field and the critical links between global health and social and economic development.Students will get an overview of the determinants of health and how health status is measured.Students will also review the burden of disease, risk factors, and key measures to address theburden of disease in cost-effective ways. The course will cover key concepts and frameworksbut be very practical in orientation. The course will be global in coverage but with a focus onlow- and middle-income countries and on the health of the poor. Throughout the course,students will be encouraged to analyze and synthesize course material in discussion boards.
