Emphasis on learning the basic principles, using MS EXCEL, required to organize and manage service and manufacturing organizations. Topics may include improved facility layout, project management, supply-chain management, Just-in-Time systems, inventory management, scheduling, and work force management. Discussions of real world applications frequently used to demonstrate concepts. You can access BBLearn at (click UMass Online at top of the page).You will need your NetID (OIT Account user name) and password. Participation (5%) We will be using the Top Hat ( ) classroom response system in class. You will be able to submit answers to in-class questions using Apple or Android smartphones and tablets, laptops, or through text message. If you are not in class and therefore unable to answer the participation questions posed on BlackBoard you will have 2 unexcused participation days. Homework (20%) Homework assignments will only be available on MyOMLab. Homework must be completed online by its due date. Late completions will not be accepted and all homework assignments are required. Please be aware that every student will be completing a homework assignment with similar concepts, but the variables will be randomly assigned. In other words, no two homework assignments will be identical. Please be aware that you must save the problems before exiting the program if you wish to use the assigned numbers. You will have unlimited attempts to get the problem correct. You must complete all sections of the problem to attempt again and then choose, “Similar Exercise.” There are learning aids available should you need help. However, you are allowed to bring in one 8.5 x 11” sheet of paper with notes on both sides and a calculator. Exam 1 and Exam 2 will be administered in class during class time. Students requiring special testing environments need to provide supporting documentation at least two weeks prior to any exam. If you are unable to attend an exam, you must notify me via email prior to the exam. If you do not notify me within 24 hours of the exam, you will not be granted a make-up exam. Honor Code It is expected that all students will abide by the UMass Student Honor code. Accordingly, directly copying another person's work (past or present) defeats the purpose of the assignments and is an honor code violation. Violations will result in serious penalties including course failure and possible action by the college disciplinary committee.
