La Kuokoa Lā Ku’oko’a is celebrated on November 28 th . 1843 was the first year this day was celebrated because Hawaii was being recognized as a sovereign country by Great Britain and France. Now, it is recognized as the Hawaiian Independence Day. Timoteo Haalilio, William Richards and Sir George Thompson received written recognition from Great Britain and France. Richards kept a journal which contained accounts of their travels. He talked about his journey to Washington where President John Tyler agreed to bring it up with congress. The Paulet affair
