Junk Van’s current business process is very manual and time consuming. Because of this,information errors and inefficiencies are prevalent. Some examples are the significant amount oftime drivers spend on administrative tasks (such as scheduling and collecting payment), errorsin customer contact information and billing mistakes. Our team believes Junk Van has anopportunity for BPI in the order in-take and fulfillment process as well as payment collectionprocess. Upon review of the current workflow, we believe automating certain processes willsignificantly improve Junk Van’s operations. Our main objectives are to reduce data entry errorsand increase driver efficiency.Current Business ProcessAs you can see in the diagram above, there is a significant amount of back and forth betweenemployees. Employees rely heavily on manual data entry to perform their jobs. If one employeeenters incorrect information or fails to relay the most current information, the entire businessprocess fails. For example, the data clerk accidentally sending the wrong version of thedatabase to the morning operator results in booked jobs no longer showing in the database andnot making their way to the spreadsheet used by drivers. As a result, services are notperformed and customers become frustrated.
