The head of the life insurance sales team planned to provide a new service to their customers, to enable customers to insure simple assets online without agent intermediaries. The information systems manager’s response was that the required development was expensive and that the head of the life insurance department did not know what was required and what was needed to maintain a competitive position. How to proceed? a. Analysis The head of the life insurance sales team wants to provide a new service to their customers. Because he did not know what was required of him, the head of life insurance sales team failed to take cost effectiveness and other consequences into consideration. Therefore, there is a need to come up with an alternative to the new service that aids in maintaining a competitive advantage b. Corrective action/Proposed Solution Outsourcing; Contracting or subcontracting of noncore activities to free up cash, personnel, time, facilities for activities in which a company holds competitive advantage; A business should focus its management and other resources on its core activities. 2. Responding to a request for a business systems analysis from the Director of an organization, you told the director that you would have to meet with him, with his Vice Presidents, all the other managers, and end users in order to perform this job. He told you that he and his Vice Presidents were busy, one of the accountants had prepared a sample of all the reports and forms they use, and he would be a great source of information. What next? a. Analysis Systems analysis is phase 2 of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). As a systems analyst, I should have a good understanding of the business and its processes and knowledge of the technologies that might be applicable to the opportunity or problem. The director is failing to understand my job duty and is not cooperating.
