1Professional Development PlanKathy KeoWalden University
Professional Development PlanRooting from my childhood, I found myself striving for a career path that met my self-fulfilling prophecy. My self-fulfilling prophecy has been to find a career that will help others while making a valuable contribution to the community. When I began my professional career, atthe age of eighteen, I envisioned a set of ideals for myself that met, if not exceeded, standard expectations of an organization. From my Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), career advancement, motivational speaking, and instructing collegiate students are my goals that requirea professional development plan (PDP). My PDP evaluates strengths and weaknesses and outlines a strategy to support my goals.Goal 1: Career AdvancementI was confident with my decision to achieve a DBA when I realized the career advancement opportunity. My inspiration comes from a childhood filled with challenges and uncertainty. The support from my parents, personal learning network, mentors, and social networking sites will play a role during and after successful completion of a DBA. With a degreeof this magnitude, I will face personal challenges that require a strategic planning surrounding my professional development. I also see the growth potential, which inspires me to obtain an executive role with decision making capabilities that could impact consumers and the community. My work ethic is derived from the values instilled from my parents. They have motivated me to put forth my best efforts and to be an exceptional employee. While successful completion of a DBA degree sets me apart from other candidates, I needto continue gaining experience on how to efficiently operate an organization. I also need to understand and grasp the complexity of organizational business problems and be prepared to manage them. Luckily, my current employer offers mentoring programs, leadership courses, and meetings regarding strategic short and long-term goals. The strong desire to continue my education and relentless commitment to advance in my career have been my key strengths. While these strengths may help guide me during the DBA program, my weaknesses include an overwhelming sense of stress and maintaining a healthy work-life and school balance (Keo, 2018, p. 3). While my diligence is admirable, I put myself at risk mentally, physically and emotionally (Nussbaum, 2015). My mentor, the Executive Director
