Theory, Research, and Evidence-Based Practice Every research study has some type of underlying framework (Polit & Beck, 2017). Theories are a group of concepts, an idea or thought, that guide the discipline of nursing (George, 2011). Theory began with Florence Nightingale and continues to the present. The foundation of the nursing practice is made by theories. There are many levels of theories. They can be anywhere from formal to abstract to narrow and defined. Theories can consist of assumptions, concepts, and propositions. A research design is the overall plan for answering research questions (Cantrell, 2011). A conceptual model is a starting point for many theories. C onceptual theories and models that are currently used in nursing research focus on abstract and general work that can guide research and practice, like the early stages of a theory (George, 2011). The conceptual model I chose was Nola Pender’s Health Promotion Model (HPM) (Polit & Beck, 2017). This model examines practices that motivate individuals to engage in health-promoting behaviors.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
