Ethical Dimensions of Research Studies As nurses, we want to do the right thing for our patients. We follow policies and procedures to make sure we are providing the highest quality of care. Ethics is a fine line between what is right and what is wrong. Ethics are principles that can change previous considerations about choices and actions (Fouka & Mantzorou, 2011). Ethical issues arise in nursing research. It is important to be an advocate for our patients when participating in research. Advocacy is essential for nursing standard of care. It is being the voice of the patient I am caring for when they do not have one. Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries (2016) describe advocacy as providing the best quality care for a patient and the core of nursing. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
